We recommend that you book your international flight to and from Freeport or Nassau, depending on your itinerary. Both cities are served by several airlines, such as American Airlines via Miami, Delta Airlines via Atlanta and Bahamasair via Fort Lauderdale. Ideally, you would arrive at the Bahamas one day in advance of your cruise departure so you can start your diving holidays well rested and ensure your luggage has caught up with you. Normally, embarkation is at 5 pm and disembarkation at 10 am. If you do not remain for any additional nights after your diving holiday, please allow plenty of time for the transfer to the airport and check in.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a strong swimmer to become a diver?

No. All you need to be is a reasonably proficient swimmer who is comfortable and relaxed in the water. The swimming requirement for certification is 200 metre non-stop swim (with no time or specific stroke requirement) and 10 minute tread water.

Do I need to have a dive computer?

All divers are required to dive with computers. We have an extensive equipment and gas rental service.

    How expensive is SCUBA diving?

Starting out is the most expensive part. You have to pay to get scuba certified and buy some gear. But once this part is out of the way you can choose to spend as much or as little as you wish. To get started you need to participate in the PADI Open Water Course (or equivalent). This course will give you full certification and is the most popular diving course in the world. Dive equipment prices vary depending on brand etc. Depending on your budget you can go low key or push the boat out and treat yourself to a top of the range set of gear.

Isn’t the equipment heavy and difficult to learn how to use?

The bulky scuba gear worn by many divers may seem intimidating, but learning to use it is straightforward. If you’ve snorkeled, you’re already familiar with the mask, snorkel and fins. The scuba unit consists of an air cylinder containing compressed breathing air, buoyancy compensator (BCD) jacket to help you float on the surface or to maintain your desired depth underwater, and you’ll have a regulator for you to breathe through. The wetsuit keeps you warm when diving in cooler water. Whilst it is a little awkward on the surface it is practically weightless underwater.

    PADI Manuals and PIC (certification)

Every PADI student/diver must have a manual. This is a teaching standard and cannot be broken – applicable worldwide. Breaking this means exposure to the teaching instructor and dive centres. There are very rare instances where exceptions are allowed:

    – The manual is not available in the language of the student

    – The manual simply does not exist (for example: AWARE Shark speciality)

    – When a student takes part in a refresher course

    – When a student has already pre-purchased their manual

If you already have a manual, you must contact the dive centre you purchased your manual from and purchase from them a paper PIC. If you have purchased a manual from a friend or platform, PADI quotes that this is not a legitimate way of purchase.

On board: What can I expect from staying on a liveaboard?

Most liveaboard vessels are made from wood and as such a certain level of noise and creaking should be expected due to the movement on the water. You may also be asked by crew to close all of your cabin windows and doors during crossing to prevent water from entering the indoor areas of the boat. Due to the nature of a liveaboard holiday, where up to 10 nights are spent out at sea, outdoor areas may become slippery with sea water. Please pay careful attention to the briefing DVD which will be played as soon as you board the vessel and will cover all safety aspects for your stay on board.

    Is diving with sharks safe?

Even though diving with sharks is very exciting and fun, it has inherent risks. The safety of our guests is paramount and we therefore adopt specific rules when diving with sharks in the Bahamas. To minimise the risks, all divers are required to follow the guidelines outlined in our Important Shark Diving Information.

Can Blue O Two arrange dive insurance?

Blue O Two acts as an introducer for DiveAssure who offer a selection of competitively priced dive and travel insurance policies, including short term and multiple trip policies. Their ‘Dive & Travel Plus’ insurance plan has been specifically developed for liveaboard diving holiday to provide cover above and beyond standard travel insurance, for example, missing your liveaboard departure due to a missed travel connection or lost diving days due to illness of a fellow passenger.

Packages include cancellation insurance, which is valid from the date of purchase. So, whether you are travelling next week or in two year’s time, you can book your cover today and enjoy the peace of mind having insurance can bring.

Opting for an “Annual Multi-trip” policy will also ensure that you are fully covered for any non-diving related travel of not longer than 42 days per trip.

Our referral program with DiveAssure allows you to book directly through their website, in a 4-step hassle-free way.

    – Enter your location and desired cover start date

    – Select your desired program

    – Enter you personal details

    – Pay through the secure website
