MV Smiling Seahorse description

MV Smiling Seahorse basic informations

The Smiling Seahorse is the specialist about diving in Mergui Archipelago in Myanmar and Surin and Similans islands in Thailand.

We pride ourselves in exceptional service. Small groups, passionate divers and pros, a cuisine loved by all, exclusive dive sites, an exceptionally high rate of returning customers :)

We organize day trips and liveaboard trips from 4 to 8 days to the best dive sites in Thailand and Burma from the border town of Ranong.

Operating since 2012, we shared our passion with over a thousand of passionate divers and we are so proud to be recognised as the best in the area. Check out our Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence and come diving with us!

Let me introduce you to MV Smiling Seahorse: 25 x 6.4m, 4 decks = a lot of space for only 16 divers!!!

Follow me, lets take a tour, one deck at a time...

Roof top

On the top, you'll find the giant sundeck with it's nice shaded area with hamacs and sunbeds. It is gigantic!

Upper deck

The upper deck will host the dinning area as well as the standard cabins for guests and dive guides.

The 4 large tables to dine, play cards or study your dive courses...a bar on each side and a large buffet. As you can see there is still plenty of room to dance or play some box games...

In the outdoor saloon you can see at the back a large sofa area covered with plenty of cushions to make it THE spot for a lovely nap!

The main deck

The main deck will also be the place you'll find our infamous chef in the kitchen, next to the photo room (left of the stairs). Our dear photographers will find plenty of charging sockets, a large rinsing tank just for them and their toys, large desk to work their tools and individual storage baskets for all their photo gear.

It's also from the back of the main deck that we will go diving!!!

Plenty of storage, plenty of space, nitrox blending... a davit for the brand new dingy, fin friendly ladders, what else?

Languages spoken: English and French

Facilities and services: Nitrox, DIN adaptors, Rental equipment, Tech diving facility and Photographers room

Dive type: Ambience, Cave and Night dive
Western Rocky is one of Burma's most southern dive site and perhaps one of its most exciting in terms of the breath of diving on offer. Western Rocky itself is a small island, sporting a diveable passage right through its heart that just manages to be lit by daylight all the way through. A guest appearance by a three-metre nurse shark is not uncommon and there are good chances of seeing other shark species including the famous whale shark, bowmouth guitar fish, harlequin shrimp, frogfish and sea horse, while the anemone-lined cavity is full of oversized lobsters and crabs. The four islets off shore are worth a dive on their own, their walls blanketed with clams and colorful sponges, and busy with big reef squid and chevron barracuda. All our Myanmar dive cruises pass by Western Rocky.

Die-hard shark spotters will not be disappointed in Burma. Underwater cave systems provide plenty of opportunity to see nurse sharks basking amongst the crustaceans in the privacy of their sheltered homes. Shark Cave is the regular home to a group of nurse sharks up to four metres long sharing with Big blotched sting rays and whip rays. Take the time to look beyond the cave’s obvious attractions if you dare and you will also see a floor covered in yellow sponges, a ceiling of marigold cup corals and a whole host of marine delights, from Durban dancing shrimps, giant clams, mantis shrimps and moray eels, cowries and sea slugs.

Dive type: Deep, Reef and Wall
The islet of Black Rock is a small rock in the middle of Myanmar's ocean. It provides a steep wall drop to over 100 metres, characterised by rugged boulder formations and fine soft coral. A shallow section of tube corals is home to a bevy of miniature sea creatures, where sea urchins bask and busy crabs and shrimps clatter about their business. Many consider Black Rock to be the finest dive spot in Burma. Its crystal clear waters offer 35-metre visibility, providing breath-taking views past the rock walls to the on-going procession of barracuda, tuna, mackerel, rays, reef sharks, whale sharks and eagle rays.
